Default Adding users for Remote Desktop

I am trying to allow a friend (running Win2k) to access my PC (running
XP Pro) over the internet. I enabled Remote Desktop on my PC and made
sure my firewall is allowing exceptions. He installed the Remote
Desktop client on his PC.

However, what I don't understand is how I give him permission to
connect. For example, if I choose Select Remote Users from the Remote
page of System Properties, and then choose Add to add him, well, it
seems like I am searching for a user on my PC or in my domain. If I
just type in the user name he uses on his computer, he obviously isn't
found. If I pick Locations, it only shows my computer. I tried adding a
user account, but, duh, that just created the account on my computer
which isn't my friend.

I'm obviously seriously confused (he-he) about identifying him as a
user. Likewise, when he goes to connect, how in the world is he going
to find my domain on the internet? Do I need to first setup a VPN or
something so we're on the same network?

Excuse my ignorance on this topic!

Thanks,

Steve

Default Re: Adding users for Remote Desktop

You either need to create an account on your desktop PC for him then add him
to the Remote Desktop Users Group or let him use your account logon ID and
password.

Beyond that see this page for help, tips, etc including addressing
information...
