|
I have to network two computers each on opiset sides of town. the problem is
i cant find the ip address of the computers to use the remote desktop all i get is what cox or qwest give me how do i find the real ip addresses? |

The IP address that COX or QWEST gives you *is* your public IP Address. Verify - visit http://ipaddress.com/. If the machine is behind a cable/dsl router - then the cable/dsl router has the actual IP address and you must forward the correct port(3389) through to the correct machine (the one you want to remote into. If the machine has a software firewall - and it is enabled (by default - Windows XP SP2's firewall is) - then you need to allow the traffic through it as well. Also - you must have turned on the Remote Desktop feature and the user you plan on using to remote into the machine(s) must either be a member of the administrators group of the machine or a member of the "Remote Desktop Users" group.
