remote desktop web connection OR knowing public IP

I run W2kPro on my host computer and am able to connect using remote desktop
from my LAN fine.

I have my high speed with with Bell Sympatico. I do not have a domainname
but if I know the IP address on the internet side of my router I can use
Remote Desktop Connection with the public IP address and :3389 and connect
fine. Example 66.210.14.159:3389

Question 1: Whenever the host pc at home gets rebooted it gets a new public
IP address. Then a day comes and I need to connect to my pc at home and
it's a new IP address and I have no way of knowing what the new one is. If
someone is home I can call and get it. But if not, is there any way to find
what this IP address is?

I thought that by installing remote desktop web connection on my home pc I
would be able to connect to it from the internet by typing in
http://%mycomputername%/tsweb as the documentation indicates. However this
has not worked for me. IIS is running and I have enabled forwarding for
port 3389 on the linksys router. I also have port 80 forwarding.

Question 2: regarding remote desktop web connection. Am I missing
something? I would really like to be able to access my home pc via the
internet....

Hello Brad, the solution for you is find a FREE dinamic DNS services, this
service install a little program in your terminal server, and when the ip
change, the program tell the dns servers the change .. so you always can find
your server by usin a dns like: myterminalserver.no-ip.com not matter what
IP your terminal server have, you always find your server by the dns name ...

Don't use %mycomputername% that was an example, when you register with the
dns service like www.no-ip.com you simply put:

http://myterminalserver.no-ip.com/tsweb

I signed up with no-ip and hey it works perfectly...thanks a bunch for that

There was no documentation from MS that I needed to do that to reach a
computer from across the internet. All the documentation was for an internal
LAN, even though they indicated internet as well. Was I missing something?
What is the purpose of running IIS web services on my home pc then?

Hello Brad, there is not need to install IIS in the home pc, if you want to
connect to the terminal server using the web client, you need to configure an
IIS that can be the same terminal server or some other web server, in that
IIS you install TSWEB, the TSWEB package is used to connect to the terminal
server from some Microsoft OS that not have the rdp client like windows 98 or
me ...
