have laptop with xp home and desktop with xp pro. have pcAnywhere installed
on both units. just finished configuring the host (desktop)-- no problems. The laptop is a different story. Am using the host wizard. 3 dialog boxes after opening the wizard, there is a screen where you click "add" and type a users name that you are granting access to on that computer. this brings you to a dialog box entitled identification which wants a login name and a pw. Every name and pw that i enter here, it rejects with the em: "an item already exists with the name you specified. please use a different name" I know xp home cant serve as a host computer with remote desktop connection. is this the problem i'm running into here. Have already read the manuals that came on my cd from Symantec-- they don't address the issue. Any help would be appreciated. -- 5string |

I forgot to add that if you can't get PCAnywhere running on the laptop you
might look at UltraVNC with its encryption plug-in as a free alternative... http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/index.html -- Al Jarvi (MS-MVP Windows Networking) Please post *ALL* questions and replies to the news group for the mutual benefit of all of us... Thanks for the tip Sooner Al but i've already spent my nickel and i'm going
to get this thing connected. Don't know why it connects from Host (win xp pro) to remote (xp home) unless the issue is with xp home not being able to serve as a host. Anyway, tks 4 the reply. -- 5string "Sooner Al [MVP]" wrote: > I forgot to add that if you can't get PCAnywhere running on the laptop you > might look at UltraVNC with its encryption plug-in as a free alternative... > > http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/index.html > > -- > > Al Jarvi (MS-MVP Windows Networking) > > Please post *ALL* questions and replies to the news group for the mutual > benefit of all of us... > The MS-MVP Program - http://mvp.support.microsoft.com > This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no > rights... > > "Sooner Al [MVP]" <SoonerAl@somewhere.net.invalid> wrote in message > news:uegR7MxCGHA.140@TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... > > http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/hom...115/index.html > > > > -- > > > > Al Jarvi (MS-MVP Windows Networking) > > > > Please post *ALL* questions and replies to the news group for the mutual > > benefit of all of us... > > The MS-MVP Program - http://mvp.support.microsoft.com > > This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no > > rights... > > > > "5string" <5string@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > > news:BC7DAFD6-DFD1-491A-AF38-13C60D59A19B@microsoft.com... > >> have laptop with xp home and desktop with xp pro. have pcAnywhere > >> installed > >> on both units. just finished configuring the host (desktop)-- no > >> problems. > >> The laptop is a different story.
