I am currently working overseas, my wife is having computer difficulty. I
think I know how to repair it, but if I can only gail access. She has sent me an invitation for remote assistance (both through MSN Messenger and Windows), when I accept it I get the following error message; Remote Assistance connection could not be established because the remote host name could not be resolved. Please try again. Both computers are running Windows XP SP2, McAfee internet security (anti virus, personal firewall and privacy service). I am connecting through a wireless lan, she is direct through a cable modem. My question is, is there anyway for me to be able to connect to her computer. Her problem may seem small to most (as it is only a webcam), but I have 90 days left overseas (of 180) and would love to see my wife (even if only over the internet). Thanks |

You may have two options. 1. Make sure she has the port 3389 open and you may need to modify the IP address for the invitation from private IP or public IP.
2. You both must be on-line using MSN messenger. We have tried the MSN online thing, How do I change the invitation from
Private to pubilc IP? This has been going on for about a month now. I have asked out computer experts at my location (they said it is because of my ISP, I don't believe them). That is why I am on this forum now. Is there anymore information you need? I am willing to provide it. "Robert L [MS-MVP]" wrote: > You may have two options. 1. p.s. I already did as the link suggested, I had her remove the router
completely from the system. She is connected directly to the internet through the cable modem. Are there any other suggestions? Thanks "Robert L [MS-MVP]" wrote: > You may have two options. 1. This how to may help.
Modify Remote Assistance Invitation When trying to remote access a XP computer to offer a remote assistance, you may receive the "Remote Assistance connection could not be established because the remote host name could not be resolved". One way to fix this problem is modifying the invitation file ...
