Default Urgent - brother's laptop fell and screen frozen. Keys do not work

The laptop stays on even when unplugged - probably battery working.

What should he do to restore function?

I'd attempt to hold the power button depressed for 4-5 seconds. Then, if
that didn't do it, remove the main battery.

He will be quite lucky if it works fine restarted afterwards and there was
no lasting damage.

Chris,

Your answer seemed to work. Everything is now fine I am told.
