Help setting up remote connection over internet
I am new at using windows xp pro, and I want to set up my computer so that I
can access it from another computer using the internet. I've followed all the sets for the host computer in this link... http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...moteintro.mspx but now I am not sure what to do in order to access my computer from say a friends house who has windows xp pro. Like I said earlier I am new at using windows xp pro and would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Yes you need to know the IP of the firewall/router. One way is to go to the
http://www.whatismyip.com site. Another is to use a dynamic name service like No-IP.com to map a fully qualified domain name to your ISP assigned IP address. ok, so I went through the port fowarding, and all the enabling remote things,
and I know my IP address using the link you gave, now if I am at the computer at the other location when I open up the remote connection for computer name I type in my host computer (td48sweep) and then is the user name and password that of the client computer or that of my host computer? And is the domain my IP address from the link you gave me? (I had someone at the client? computer try to access my host using my computer name in the blank and we tried both mine and his username and password and then his and my IP addresses given from your link and their was an error that said it couldn't find my computer) thanks for the help. From the remote location use the public IP/Fully Qualified Domain Name (from
No-IP.com) of any firewall/router the PC is behind and *NOT* the computer name. In a work group (like I have at home) do not use the domain name. It has no meaning... The user ID and password used to log on is local to the PC your trying to connect to.
