Default VPN Endpoint tunnel connected but can't connect to RD

Hello,

I've been struggling with a problem that I hope someone can help with.

I've got two Linksys VPN routers (BEFSX41 ~ BEFVP41) that I have
established a tunnel between over the internet.. The tunnel is connected
and stays connected so that's apparently not the problem.

I am trying to reach a Windows XP Pro machine behind BEFVP41 from another
Windows XP Pro machine behind BEFSX41. I am getting the dreaded "REMOTE
DESKTOP DISCONNECTED" - "The specified remote computer could not be found".

I've configured the tunnel to pass NetBIOS traffic on both ends.

I've tried entering the IP address of the destination machine in the RD
client connection dialog.

I can connect to the destination machine from another XP Pro machine that's
on the same LAN using the machine name.. So the RD configuration is ok.

The destination site has DSL and the modem (Speedstream 5660) is in bridge
mode so that the BEFVP41 is getting the WAN IP from the ISP. Everything
else works ok.

I have this same setup working fine with another configuration so I'm
stumped about what else to look at.

Any ideas ?

Thanks
Bryan

Can you ping the PC by using its IP?

Also make sure the two sub-nets are different, ie. one 192.168.1.X versus 192.168.2.X for
example...

Thanks for the reply Al..

I don't recall trying to ping the PC... I think with my testing tonight
and remotely changing the router configuration trying everything, I've
caused it to lock up or the modem has rebooted so I can't check anything
at the moment until I can get someone there to restart it tomorrow
morning.

The subnets ARE the same in this situation. You know, I thought in the
back of my mind that logically that might be a problem.. If indeed the
subnets have to be different then I'll certainly make that change
tomorrow..

I'll post a followup after making those changes..

Thanks again.
Bryan
